Of Heads Unique… Shakeel
Momin makes an impressive solo debut with
his current exhibition at the jehangir art
gallery. He is to be admired for harbouring
firm visual ideas. His paintings are dominated
by classic heads, which I believe are Grecian
texture.
Shakeel ensconces these heads in subtly
painted yellow or yellow ochre. On the whole |
he uses blank backgrounds to contrast effectively
the heads and the surroundings area. There
is unique Sculptural quality about these
paintings, what is more, the appearance
of the heads is uniquely innovative.
Shakeel has for many years been self-effacing.
He passed out from Raheja College of Art
with a Diploma in 1994. He has won prizes
throughout his career including a merit
first prize at his Diploma.
He has devoted himself wholly to his paintings.
The distinctive results are for all to see.
